Sanjay Bangar is confident that Virat Kohli will play Test cricket for another five years. The 35-year-old retired from T20Is after India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.

The star batter has often expressed that the red-ball format is his favorite. Kohli has been a part of 113 Tests, amassing 8,848 runs at an average of 49.15 with 29 hundreds.

“The careers of the players are going to get longer, and it will benefit the Indian team. A lot will depend on Virat Kohli’s body. The format he would give up at last will be Test cricket. I am sure he will be there for another five years as far as the longest format is concerned,” Sanjay Bangar said in Rao Podcast.a

Bangar also gave the examples of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid and said that skipper Rohit Sharma could continue to represent India until 40 years.

“I think Rohit will play till his body and fitness allows him. Sachin was there till 40, and even Rahul Dravid played till 40. A lot of fitness experts are looking after players these days. The nutritionists are also helping,” he added.

Sachin retired at 40 in 2013, while Dravid played his last contest for the national team at 39.

Sanjay Bangar doesn’t feel that Rohit Sharma will hang up his boots after winning the T20 World Cup.

“Rohit will continue to play for India despite winning the T20 World Cup. He wouldn’t have retired even if India had won the 2023 ODI World Cup. The ICC tournaments are happening every year,” he said.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return for the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
