Actor Malaika Arora’s father ends life in Mumbai: Police

The exact reason behind the incident is not yet known, an official said, adding an investigation was underway

Actor-model Malaika Arora’s father Anil Arora reportedly took his own life in Mumbai on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) morning, a police official said.

The actor’s father died in Bandra area at around 9 a.m., an official said. A team of Bandra police rushed to the spot and shifted him to a hospital, where he was declared dead before arrival, he said.

The exact reason behind the incident was not yet known, the official said, adding an investigation was underway. Police conducted ‘panchnama’ (inspection) of the spot and have started collecting evidence, he said.

They also video recorded the building premises, from where the body was recovered, as part of the procedure, the official said.

The police also examined CCTV footage of the building premises to ascertain details of the incident, he said. The postmortem process was underway at a hospital, the police said.

Meanwhile, a source told PTI, “It’s true that Malaika’s father passed away this morning. He has not committed suicide, it’s an accident. They all are shocked because he had no ailment or anything as such.”

“We will be sending you the police panchnama when we receive it. That will be the accurate information for this unfortunate incident,” the source said.

Malaika Arora and her sister Amrita Arora Ladak did not respond to queries on the incident.

After getting information about the incident, Malaika Arora’s former husband and actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, visited the building.

Arbaaz Khan’s parents Salim Khan and Salma Khan, brother Sohail Khan, Malaika Arora’s son Arhaan Khan, her former boyfriend actor Arjun Kapoor and producer Ritesh Sidhwani arrived at the residence of Malaika’s mother.

Arbaaz Khan’s stepmother Helen, his sister Alvira Agnihotri, Sohail Khan’s former wife Seema Sajdeh, and actors Kim Sharma and Shibani Dandekar were also present there.

Along with it, Malaika informed about her father’s passing. She called him a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and their best friend. Malaika added that their family is in deep shock.

Malaika further requested privacy from the media and their well-wishers in these difficult times. She signed off the note with the entire Arora family’s name and even included he families furbabies, Casper, Axl, Duffy and Buddy. Her note can be read as:

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by the loss, and we  kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult times. We appreciate your understanding, support and respect.”

An ambulance was also parked outside Malaika’s home. It was the caption that revealed how Anil Mehta died by jumping from the balcony of his home. Arbaaz, who is now married to Sshura Khan, didn’t thought twice to come in support of his ex-wife and their family.

Anil Mehta, who was divorced from his wife, Joyce Polycarp, when Malaika was just 11-year-old, started living together a few years ago in the same flat in Bandra. The family would often come together for family dinners. As per the reports, Joyce, in her statement, revealed that she had been living with Anil for the last few years.

Talking about the incident, Joyce revealed that her ex-husband, Anil, had no illness except knee pain (due to old age). She further shared that she found Anil’s slippers in the living room and then went to look from outside. However, when she was not able to find him, she leaned from the balcony and saw watchman screaming for help. Currently, police have been investigating the matter.
