Virat Kohli’s fans outside Chepauk in Chennai ahead of the first Test between India and Bangladesh (X)
The youngsters were visibly elated and looked eager to witness Kohli’s return to Test cricket.
A group of fans were recently spotted chanting Virat Kohli’s name outside the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The crazy scenes unfolded days before the first Test between India and Bangladesh. The fans had visited the stadium to collect their tickets for the match.
They were captured flaunting the tickets while cheering “Kohli, Kohli.”
The youngsters were visibly elated and looked eager to see Kohli back in Test cricket. A video of the moment was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption– “Fans chanting for Virat Kohli at the Outside Chepauk stadium. The Craze of King Kohli.”
Prior to the Test series against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli had last played in red-ball cricket earlier this year in January. Back then, Kohli had toured South Africa for a two-match series. The hosts secured a dominant victory in the opening Test but India were able to turn the tables in the second match and won by seven wickets to level the series.
Following the away assignment, Virat Kohli had focused on the white-ball cricket. He contributed with a match-defining knock in the T20 World Cup final and helped India secure the title for the second time. After the tournament, Kohli bid adieu to T20Is. Kohli had featured in three ODIs against Sri Lanka in August. He failed to showcase his A-game in the bilateral series, which India lost 2-0. Fans were eager to see Kohli in his iconic form in the Bangladesh series. The top-order batter, however, failed to match the expectations in the first innings of the opening game at Chepauk.
Virat Kohli arrived at the crease at no. 4 following the dismissal of Shubman Gill. He started off confidently but could not maintain his composure and managed to score six runs facing as many deliveries. Kohli edged a delivery off Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud and ended up being caught by Liton Das behind the stumps.
Before Kohli, Mahmud also trapped Rohit Sharma and Gill with his brilliant outswingers. Following an early batting collapse, India will now rely on middle-order batters, who will try to spend more time at the crease and build the foundation.
