Samantha Ruth Prabhu praises Alia Bhatt at Jigra event: ‘She reminds us that we are heroes in our stories’
Alia Bhatt’s next, Jigra, is special for a myriad of reasons.
The film, which is scheduled for a release on October 11, marks Alia’s first production to hit the big screens.
She earlier backed the comedy thriller, Darlings, under her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions, but it was directly released on Netflix.
With Jigra, Alia is taking the big step into the mainstream space, and is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the Vasan Bala directorial is a major success.
Apart from being released in Hindi, Jigra is also hitting the screens in Telugu, and is being presented by Rana Daggubati in the Telugu states.
At a pre-release event, team Jigra, including Alia, Vedang Raina, Rahul Ravindran, director Vasan, and Rana, were joined by special guests — director Trivikram Srinivas and actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Starting off her speech by thanking the audience for their relentless cheers and whistles, Samantha said, “Alia, you know how much I love you. Heroines have the responsibility to prove to the women watching our films that they are the heroes in their story. I think that’s why the work Alia does is so important. She reminds us that we are the heroes in our story.”
Samantha Ruth Prabhu also put the emphasis on how Alia Bhatt backing Jigra was an important step in the right direction. “She is taking a risk on herself, and is backing her own projects.”
The Oh Baby actor also spoke fondly about her connection with the celebrities attending the event.
Calling them her ‘jigras’, Samantha said, “I don’t think my career would be the same without Rahul Ravindran, Trivikram Srinivas, Rana and Suresh Productions.”
The Pushpa actor also shared her love for Rahul Ravindran, who made his acting debut opposite Samantha in Moscowin Kaveri.
“I love you, Rahul. I’ve been there for your Tamil debut, Telugu debut, directorial debut in Telugu, and now, your Hindi film debut. He is the nicest person in the world, and I wish him all the best,” said Samantha, who added that the vision of Rana Daggubati is very important to women-fronted cinema.
“Rana is my brother, and last month he presented a female-lead film (35) that became a big success. And in less than a month, he is back with Jigra. Every woman needs a brother like Rana.”
Assuring the Telugu audience that they only saw a trailer of Alia’s talent in RRR, Samantha said that Jigra would showcase her true talent.
She also expressed her gratitude for the long-standing love and affection from the Telugu audience. “I am what I am today because of the Telugu audience. You are my family. I will always be grateful. Thank you.”
Jigra, which is co-produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shaheen Bhatt and Soumen Mishra, is written by Vasan Bala and Debashish Irengbam.
