Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcome baby girl, Arjun Kapoor says ‘The queen is here!’

Actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on Sunday.

Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on Sunday. The couple took to their social media handles to share the news.

Deepika and Ranveer shared a picture with the text, “Welcome Baby Girl. 8.9.2024.”

As soon as Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone announced the arrival of their first child, colleagues and fans flooded the comments section of the post with congratulatory messages and blessings for the new parents. While Gauhar Khan wrote, “Too good ! God bless ❤️ n so it begins . Welcome to parenthood 🎀,” Arjun Kapoor commented, “Laxmi aayi hai !!! ❤️The queen is here !!! 👸.” A comment by Vishal Dadlani read, “Congratulations and all the love in the world to all three of you! @deepikapadukone @ranveersingh 🤗🤗.” Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, Rubina Diliak, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde, Parineeti Chopra and Sharvari, among others, also congratulated the couple.

Deepika was admitted to Mumbai’s HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Saturday evening, ahead of the delivery of her first baby. Ranveer and Deepika were spotted arriving at the South Mumbai hospital along with their families.

A few days ago, the power couple had posted photos from their pregnancy shoot on social media. In black and white, the pictures captured the parents-to-be beaming with joy as they created a core memory together. While Deepika proudly flaunted her baby bump, Ranveer was seen smiling from ear to ear in the photos. The moment the couple shared the images on social media, friends from the industry and thousands of fans quickly filled the comments section with love and admiration for the two.

Deepika and Ranveer announced her pregnancy in February via an Instagram post. This was shortly before they went for the Ambani pre-wedding celebrations in Jamnagar. At the time, Deepika and Ranveer shared an identical post on Instagram which had a collage of baby onesies, baby caps, rattles and baby shoes with the text ‘September 2024’ suggesting that they were expecting the baby in September.

She made dazzling appearances as she promoted Kalki 2898 AD and her make-up brand. She also attended Radhika Merchant-Anant Ambani’s wedding with Ranveer. The mental health advocate also  shared her self-care routine and advised doing something everyday to take care of one’s physical and mental health.

Deepika and Ranveer started dating each other during the filming of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. During an appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee with Karan, Ranveer said that he felt like they had a spark during their first meeting for the film. Ranveer recalled, “I said you got something on your teeth, she said clean it.” For him, this was their “moment of spark.” He said that when he put his pinky finger in her mouth, he felt a “440 watt jolt.” It was during this chat that Deepika revealed that even though they were “technically allowed” to date others, they kept coming back to one another.

He said that once, while shooting for a kissing scene, when a brick came in through the window, they continued to kiss each other as they were so “oblivious” to their surroundings. He knew she was “the one” six months into dating her. Ranveer and Deepika got engaged in 2015 and kept it hidden from the world for three years.

He recalled on the chat show, “Just her and me, on a sliver of sand, in the middle of the sea. I was like this is it, I have done it, this is the perfect scenario. I pop the question, gave her the ring, she did not expect it, she got emotional and that was it, she said yes and I felt like the king of the world, and then we were engaged.” Deepika’s parents were shocked when they learnt about it at first, but soon after they were on board.

In November 2018, Deepika and Ranveer got married in Italy in a close knit ceremony. The couple hosted a few wedding receptions in India and shared a few photos from the ceremony on their social media, which they deleted a few years later. On the fifth anniversary of their wedding, the couple shared their wedding video with their fans. Their wedding videographer, Vishal Punjabi told All About Eve, “I guess sometimes, some things are so beautiful, you don’t want to share it with the world. Nazar na lage, as mums would say, and I get that sentiment.”

The couple had a traditional south-Indian wedding and a Sikh wedding along with a few pre-wedding ceremonies.

Ever since her pregnancy announcement, Deepika has shot for two films. Soon after the pregnancy announcement, Deepika was clicked on the sets of Singham Again where she plays a copy. This is Deepika’s first appearance in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. Apart from shooting for Rohit’s film, Deepika also filmed for Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. Nag Ashwin, in an earlier interview with ETimes, revealed that there were two days when Deepika’s “actual child also acted in the movie.”
