MS Sathyu on Deepika Padukone & Sanjay Leela Bhansali
MS Sathyu, who directed ‘Garam Hawa’ starring Balraj Sahni and Farooq Shaikh in 1974, spoke about Deepika, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram Leela’ and more.
In an interview with Rediff in 2014, Sathyu had spoken about Deepika Padukone and said, “She is a good looking girl but no acting talent.” He also said, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram Leela was so bad. Only the music was good.”
Speaking to the publication on the occasion of ‘Garam Hawa’s re-release in theatres, Sathyu was also asked about what recent films he had seen.
He mentioned ‘Chennai Expres’s, ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram Leela’, ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Bang Bang’.
On the state of films
Speaking about Chennai Express he said, “I went for an afternoon show in Bangalore, there were 50 to 60 people in a theatre of 1,000 capacity in the first week of its release. And they are claiming it’s playing to packed houses! It was a bad film. The actors were so bad”.
MS Sathyu’s good actors list
He had then called Vidya Balan, Richa Chadha, Anushka Sharma and Nimrit Kaur good actors.
While he also praised Irrfan, he said that the actor ‘mumbles his dialogues and is repititive’.
He also spoke about Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish’ which was also sent for a National Award. MS Sathyu said, “I don’t know how they dared to send it for a National Award. It was a horrible film. There is a rule that every film should be seen fully, even if it is bad. You can make out a film is bad within the first half an hour. So it should be rejected right then.”
