Having made her name in both the world’s biggest film capitals, Priyanka Chopra is not only a famous face in the Indian showbiz world but also a famous Indian star in Hollywood.
Born in 1982, becoming Miss India and Miss World at the age of 18, Priyanka Chopra decided to join the film industry instead of dreaming of studying aerospace engineering, becoming an actress, singer and film producer… But her path to success was not smooth.Chopra has overcome many obstacles from being a victim of school violence to scandals related to ex-boyfriends.
Chopra said: “When I was 12, I moved to the US to live with my aunt. Here, Chopra attended high school in Queens (New York), then transferred to school in Newton (Massachusetts).I went to a school near my house with my aunt’s children. At first, everything was great, no need to wear uniforms, each student had their own locker. What was taught at school was quite simple compared to my ability to absorb.
However, at school, there was a classmate who bullied me, making my life hell. The bullying did not stop at mental terrorism but sometimes went as far as physical aggression because I had dark skin.
Chopra shared that she was an adaptable person because she was used to a life of traveling, but she felt scared when being bullied by her friends, it exceeded the initial positive impressions and so she decided to return to India after 3 years of studying in the US.
For many people, moving to America would change their lives, but for Chopra, returning home was a godsend. Her mother helped her submit her photos to the Miss India pageant, which helped Chopra become the youngest Miss India and then Miss World in the pageant’s history. This was the opportunity that helped her step into the art world.
In 2003, Chopra made her Bollywood debut in “The Hero”, playing the lead character.Chopra’s breakthrough role was in “Aitraaz”, released in 2004. In 2006, Chopra established herself as a leading actress in Indian cinema with her roles as Krrish and Don.
When she played a model in the 2008 drama “Fashion”, Chopra received critical acclaim. The role won her the National Film Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award. She has been praised by the media and experts for her roles in the films “Kaminey” (2009), “Barfi!(2012), “Khoon Maaf” (2011), “Dil Dhadakne Do” (2015) … all of which received nominations and awards. In 2015, Chopra played Alex Parrish in the ABC series “Quantico”, becoming the first South Asian to play a lead character in an American television series.Chopra is currently the highest-paid television actress in the world.
“Actresses are often associated with adjectives like sexy, seductive, that is considered their strength, but that is not the only thing we have.Because there are many other things, women often have endurance, have unpredictable strength. The ability to cope is always inside each of us”.
Chopra shared: “Actresses are often associated with adjectives like sexy, seductive, that is considered their strength, but that is not the only thing we have.Because there are many other things, women often have endurance, have unpredictable strength. The ability to cope is always inside each of us”.
Perhaps the reason Chopra has become famous and loved is not only because of her talent, beauty and hot body, but also because of her tireless efforts in charity work.Chopra is famous for her role as UNICEF Ambassador for protecting children’s rights. In addition, she has acted in films and modeled for leprosy and cancer campaigns, spoken out about environmental issues, and provided clean electricity to seven Indian villages.Chopra has also pledged to donate her organs after her death.
Chopra founded her own charity, the Priyanka Foundation, which supports education and health care for disadvantaged children in India, donating 10% of its earnings to the foundation.Chopra has paid for the education and medical treatment of 70 Indian children, and has been a vocal voice against the country’s male-dominated culture of female foeticide. In doing so, she has helped change the country’s stereotypes about women.
I can’t end poverty, but I can at least help those around me, make sure no child’s dream is buried,” Chopra said.Putting aside her past love scandals, Chopra is now happily married to the playboy Nick, who is 10 years her junior.
